the ReCollective Mission

The Problem

At The ReCollective, we recognize the urgent need to address waste and pollution. Globally, we produce 100 billion tons of raw materials annually, with most ending up as pollution, in landfills, or scattered in oceans. Over-consumption and a linear economy contribute to these issues, impacting our communities’ health and the environment. Traditional recycling programs are limited, and managing waste requires time and effort many lack. The ReCollective supports households in reducing waste and promotes a circular economy.

The Solution

Recycling should be easy, accessible, and transparent. ReCo helps households manage waste that single-stream recycling can’t handle, without requiring much time or effort. We accept materials with historically low recycling rates, such as plastic film, polystyrene, textiles, batteries, light bulbs, latex paint, and small electronics. These items are sorted, packaged, and supplied to local businesses and organizations for recycling or reuse. Our low-cost service is designed to be as affordable as the gas it would take to drive the materials yourself. We ensure transparency, so members know they are making a difference with circular community solutions.

The ReCollective launched in September 2022. We will publish impact reports quarterly, which can be accessed below.

Founders

Bryce and Kevin, two Triangle residents, co-founded The ReCollective in 2022 to help fellow community members divert waste and reduce climate impact. Bryce is also the owner of Durham-based Gather Green.

ReCo proudly supports 500 amazing members in the Triangle area. With a dedicated team of three employees, we process over 30 different materials each year. Every month, we divert approximately 5,000 pounds of materials from the landfill by partnering with 15 fantastic organizations to recycle, reuse, and compost your materials. We are entirely locally funded and operated. Thank you for being a part of our mission to create a greener, brighter future!

Free & Accessible Alternatives

Any materials diverted from the landfill is a success. While The ReCollective seeks to divert literal tons of waste by collecting from your home, we understand our service is one of convenience. We make it easy, but if you’re seeking free solutions and have the time to haul your own materials, we believe those solutions should be celebrated. Here are some free and accessible companies that will help you handle your waste:

Thank you for wasting less, and The ReCollective is here if you need a simpler, more straightforward way to divert your waste.
