ReCollective OneStop

Food Scraps/Organics Recycling (Composting)

ReCo OneStop combines your Hard-to-Recycle membership with door-to-door pickup of your food scraps!

Convenience

The ReCollective is your OneStop solution to reducing household waste! We pick up food scraps just like we do your hard-to-recycle canvas bags – from your doorstep!

Choose Your Reward

Twice a year you’ll have the choice to receive compost back or free add-on specialty recycling to your monthly ReCo pickup as a reward for keeping all those food scraps out of the landfill!

Flexibility

Whether you’re on our twice monthly or weekly OneStop plan, you choose when we pick up your ReCo Hard-To-Recycle items as well! Choose the week that works best for you every month.

What’s accepted in your purple bucket:

  • ALL FOOD WASTE (COOKED OR RAW) & MORE
  • Fruit & vegetable scraps
  • Eggshells
  • Coffee grounds
  • Loose-leaf tea
  • Baked goods & bread
  • Nuts & shells
  • Seeds & pits
  • Tofu
  • Meats
  • Dairy Items
  • Coffee filters & tea bags
  • Paper towels, napkins, and bags
  • Flowers & house plant trimmings
  • Pizza boxes
  • Cotton fabric
  • Anything that grows 🙂

How it Works

1

You’ll receive a 4-gallon bin to fill up with your food scraps. We collect your bin on your scheduled collection days and once a month we’ll collect your canvas recycling bags at the same time (you choose!)!

2

You’ll receive a clean purple bin and clean canvas bags each time our team collects them!

3

Earn rewards as you divert your food scraps from the landfill! Twice a year you’ll have the option to receive a bucket of compost back for your garden or free add-on specialty recycling.

ReCollective OneStop is available in parts of Durham, Cary, Morrisville, and Raleigh, and expansion into additional neighborhoods and cities will happen in the coming months. If available in your area, you may sign up by clicking on Shop in your Member Dashboard or as you join if you’re new to ReCo!

F.A.Q.s

Left Blank on Purpose

Left Blank on Purpose

Who is your composting partner?

ReCo partners with Brooks Contractor to turn your food scraps into nutrient-rich soil!

Do you take BPI-certified compostable items?

We shy away from compostable plastics. Bambooware is acceptable. 1) Plastics certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute must meet a standard of carbon conversion to CO2; however, they do not biodegrade into nutrient-rich soil. 2) Contamination is an issue because it is hard to distinguish truly compostable materials from plastic. 3) PFAS are a concern.

Food Scrap service is not in my area. When will it be available?

We plan to continue expansion in the coming months and throughout 2025.

Do you offer a Food Scrap-only service plan?

Not at this time. We offer Food Scrap pickup as an add-on service to Hard-to-Recycle Plans.
