Twice a year you’ll have the choice to receive compost back or free add-on specialty recycling to your monthly ReCo pickup as a reward for keeping all those food scraps out of the landfill!

How it Works

You’ll receive a 4-gallon bin to fill up with your food scraps. We collect your bin on your scheduled collection days and once a month we’ll collect your canvas recycling bags at the same time (you choose!)!

You’ll receive a clean purple bin and clean canvas bags each time our team collects them!

Earn rewards as you divert your food scraps from the landfill! Twice a year you’ll have the option to receive a bucket of compost back for your garden or free add-on specialty recycling.

ReCollective OneStop Compost Service is available in parts of Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill.

Current members can add OneStop through Shop in the Member Dashboard. New members can choose the service while joining. Availability is based on your address, and routes continue to expand as nearby participation grows.

How does ReCollective OneStop work?

OneStop combines scheduled doorstep food scrap pickup with The ReCollective’s Hard-to-Recycle service. Food scraps are collected at every OneStop pickup, and you can set out your Hard-to-Recycle materials once each month.

How much does OneStop composting service cost?

Twice-monthly OneStop service is $21 per month, and weekly OneStop service is $33 per month. OneStop includes both food scrap pickup and The ReCollective’s Hard-to-Recycle service.

How often are food scraps picked up?

Food scraps are collected every time we service your OneStop stop. Members can choose twice-monthly or weekly service. Hard-to-Recycle materials are collected once each month.

What can I put in my Purple Bin?

You can compost food scraps including fruits and vegetables, meat and bones, seafood, dairy, eggshells, bread, pasta, coffee grounds and more.

We also accept certain fiber-based items such as paper towels, napkins, uncoated paper plates, pizza boxes and BPI-certified paper and fiberware products.

Are compostable plastics accepted?

No. We do not accept compostable plastics, including BPI-certified compostable plastics. Bambooware, cutlery, and BPI-certified paper and fiberware products are still accepted.

Is compost pickup available near me?

OneStop is available in parts of Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville and Chapel Hill. Availability depends on your address and current route coverage.

Can I get food scrap pickup without a Hard-to-Recycle plan?

Doorstep OneStop compost pickup is offered together with The ReCollective’s Hard-to-Recycle service.

If you only need food scrap composting, our Community Compost program offers standalone neighborhood drop-off locations.

Who processes the food scraps after collection?

The ReCollective partners with Brooks Contractor, a regional commercial composter, to process collected food scraps.

Do you offer composting service for businesses?

Yes. Commercial composting is separate from the residential OneStop service. Businesses can submit a commercial composting inquiry to learn more.
