Recycle Used Jewelry
The ReCollective Recycles Jewelry
Jewelry can still have value even after it is no longer worn. Many people have old necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other pieces tucked away in drawers, even though they may still be useful for reuse, repair, or repurposing.
The ReCollective helps create a reuse pathway for jewelry by collecting it and partnering with community organizations and The Scrap Exchange to give it a new life.
Jewelry should be placed in your own bag, not the ReCo Pick bag.
Accepted Materials
We are collecting used jewelry, including:
- Necklaces
- Pendants
- Bracelets
- Brooches
- Earrings
- Costume jewelry
- Precious metal jewelry
- Broken jewelry
- Solo earrings
Please place jewelry in a separate bag, standard grocery size or smaller, and set it inside your black waterproof bag on pickup day. Do not place these items in your ReCo Pick bag.
What is NOT included? Please do not include loose beads, loose gems, loose clasps, sharp items, or jewelry that is unsalvageable. Jewelry can be worn and/or broken, but it should still be suitable for reuse, repair, or repurposing.
How does The ReCollective recycle jewelry?
Collected jewelry is sorted and prepared for delivery to community partners, including The Scrap Exchange. These partners help give jewelry a new life through reuse, creative repurposing, and upcycling.
Repurposing jewelry can mean transforming existing pieces into something completely different by combining old materials, altering them, or using them in new creations.
At The ReCollective, we recycle jewelry across the Triangle, NC, including Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill, as well as through our Almost Anything Bag Mailback program.
