The ReCollective Recycles Lanyards and Name Tags

Lanyards and name tags are produced in huge volumes for conferences, workplaces, schools, and events. Many are used only once or twice and then thrown away. Because they are typically made from mixed materials like fabric or plastic straps, plastic badge holders, and metal clips, they aren’t accepted in curbside recycling programs and often end up in the landfill.

The ReCollective helps address this challenge by creating reuse and recycling pathways for lanyards and name tags that would otherwise be discarded.

Lanyards and name tags should be put in your own bag, not the ReCo Pick bag.

Accepted Materials

Recycling used lanyards and name tags, including:

  • Fabric or polyester lanyards
  • Plastic lanyards
  • Plastic name tags and badge holders
  • Lanyards with metal or plastic clips

Please place lanyards and name tags in a separate bag (standard grocery size bag or smaller) and set it inside your black waterproof bag on pickup day. Do not place these items in your ReCo Pick bag.

What is NOT included? Broken lanyards and name tags

ReCollective warehouse for recycling

How does The ReCollective recycle lanyards and name badges?

Collected lanyards and name tags are transported to our Durham, NC warehouse, where they are sorted by material and condition. Lanyards and badge holders are reused by local community organizations, schools, or events.

At The ReCollective, we recycle lanyards and name badges across the Triangle, NC, including Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill, as well as through our Almost Anything Bag Mailback program. We’re dedicated to giving your lanyards a second life, whether through reuse or recycling.

Lanyards are collected through the ReCo Pick in addition to our other core hard-to-recycle materials that are collected each pickup.
