With all the materials The ReCollective captures from households, having a system will help you divert your home’s waste with the greatest of ease! The ReCollective is glad to help you with the best, and easiest way to get rid of your stuff. Check out these tips to set up the best ReCollection system for your house!

1. Pick a place out of the way, but not out of sight

Because you are collecting for monthly pick up you don’t want your station to be in a very high-traffic area of your house. Still you will need to access it regularly to remember to set aside your special hard-to-recycle items as you go through your day. We recommend having your station or bags hung in a front hall closet or somewhere close to your single-stream recycling bin. Somewhere you won’t forget it, but not in the way.

2. DIY Your Waste Station

Make your ReCo Station work for you! If you have limited space, we recommend putting your materials directly into your ReCo bags and hanging on the wall. If your system makes better sense with boxes that are convenient to sorting (like in your pantry or garage) use that set-up and transfer to your ReCo bags the night of collection day!

3. Keep things Clean, Empty, and Dry

All our recycling and reuse partners appreciate having clean, dry materials to process. Please help us ensure that we are able to recycle as much of your waste as we possibly can!

4. Download RECO Signage for your home!

Help your friends and family sort your materials by providing signage to keep your station sorted and straight. You can download ReCollection cheat sheets here.

5. Get the Whole House Involved

Getting everybody on board ensures there is less contamination and that the materials we’re picking up from you are correctly sorted! Kids love learning about where things go and how they get reused. Your roommates will be more engaged if you share your ReCo cheat sheets and tell them why you want to divert from the landfill.

Once you have your ReCo system in place, make sure that on pick up day the canvas bags are all in the waterproof black bag, and the styrofoam is stashed in the plastic bag provided with your bag kit. Then when we arrive at pick up, we’ll swap out your bags for fresh ones and you can start ReCollecting for the next month!
