Introducing a new way to compost at the Durham Farmers’ Market! DFM, in partnership with The ReCollective and NO Kid Hungry, is offering market patrons regular Food Scrap Drop-Off sign-ups starting Saturday, December 2 (with the first drop-off being December 9!). Sign up at the ReCollective booth to receive your Purple Bin for your food scraps. Then just Swap your Bin at the market for a Clean One either weekly or biweekly. It’s the easy way to compost; just swap your bin and go and let ReCo do the work for you!
Here are some things you need to know:
  • The program will start with limited space, so sign up to get your spot!
  • The cost is $12 / month for biweekly and $20 / month for weekly drop-off with a onetime $5 Bin fee.
Financial Assistance for the Program is available! Thanks to the ReCollective and No Kid Hungry, 25 DFM patrons will get the service for free or at little cost! Find out more about applying for drop-off financial assistance at this link: https://forms.gle/wx9aErowtiWVdwFx7

  • ALL FOOD WASTE (COOKED OR RAW) & MORE
  • Fruit & vegetable scraps
  • Eggshells
  • Coffee grounds
  • Loose-leaf tea
  • Baked goods & bread
  • Nuts & shells
  • Seeds & pits
  • Tofu
  • Meats
  • Dairy Items
  • Coffee filters & tea bags
  • Paper towels, napkins, and bags
  • Flowers & house plant trimmings
  • Pizza boxes
  • Cotton fabric
  • Anything that grows 🙂
