You can recycle styrofoam responsibly with The ReCollective. Use this guide to avoid contamination! How does styrofoam recycling work? ReCollective members are given a 55-gallon bag to collect styrofoam that they can fill at their own pace. It typically takes members a couple months or more to fill it up. Once full, members just put the bag on their doorstep along with all the other materials we accept on pickup day. Our partner Orange Recycling Services densifies the styrofoam. Densified blocks are then shipped to end-market manufacturers to make things like plastic components, picture frames, and building materials. Tips for styrofoam recycling: ♻️ReCo collects styrofoam packaging and coolers. ♻️Don’t unnecessarily break up styrofoam pieces. Bigger is better to feed into the recycling densifier. It’s ok if the pieces are sticking out of the ReCo styrofoam bag. ♻️Do not put flexible foam in your styrofoam bag. Styrofoam is brittle and breaks when bent. Foam does not break! ♻️Avoid establishments that use food styrofoam containers.
