ReCollecting Unopened Takeout Utensils and Cutlery

Recycling unopened plastic silverware helps reduce plastic waste and prevents it from ending up in landfills or polluting the environment. These single-use items can be repurposed and donated to organizations in need, extending their usefulness and minimizing resource consumption.

Unopened takeout utensils and cutlery should be placed in the ReCo Pick Bag during designated months.

Accepted Materials

Unopened takeout utensils and cutlery through the ReCo Pick

Unopened Utensils and Cutlery (i.e., still in the plastic wrap or a box), including:

  • Silverware Sets
  • Spoons, Forks, and Knives
  • Napkins
  • Utensils made of Plastic, Wood, or Compostable materials

What is NOT included? Utensils that are not still in plastic wrap or a box

Your plastic utensils are returned to our Durham, NC warehouse, where they are carefully sorted by category and distributed to our community partners for reuse.

At The ReCollective, we recycle unopened takeout utensils and cutlery across the Triangle, NC, including Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill, as well as through our Almost Anything Bag Mailback program. We’re dedicated to giving your plastic silverware a second life.

Unopened takeout utensils and cutlery are collected through the ReCo Pick in addition to our other core hard-to-recycle materials that are collected each pickup.
