Recycle Used Clothing Hangers

clothing hangers to be recycled

The ReCollective Recycles Clothing Hangers

An estimated 8 to 10 billion hangers are produced annually in the U.S., with many discarded after minimal use. Their mixed materials and shape make recycling difficult, leading to significant landfill waste and environmental impact, especially from plastic.

The ReCollective aims to address this issue by providing solutions for reuse and recycling.

Hangers should be put in your own bag, Not the ReCo Pick bag!

Accepted Materials

Recycling used clothing hangers, including:

  • Plastic
  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Shirt or pants hangers

Please stack your hangers neatly in a separate bag (13 gallons or smaller) and place it next to your waterproof bag. Do not place hangers in your ReCo Pick bag.

What is NOT included? Broken hangers

ReCollective warehouse for recycling

How does The ReCollective recycle clothing hangers?

Your used hangers are transported to our Durham, NC warehouse, where they are sorted and distributed to local community organizations. Some metal hangers may be recycled as scrap metal.

At The ReCollective, we recycle hangers across the Triangle, NC, including Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill, as well as through our Almost Anything Bag Mailback program. We’re dedicated to giving your hangers a second life, whether through reuse or recycling.

Clothing hangers are collected through the ReCo Pick in addition to our other core hard-to-recycle materials that are collected each pickup.
