2

You’ll receive a clean purple bin and clean canvas bags each time our team collects them!

3

Earn rewards as you divert your food scraps from the landfill! Twice a year you’ll have the option to receive a bucket of compost back for your garden or free add-on specialty recycling.

F.A.Q.s

Left Blank on Purpose

Left Blank on Purpose

Who is your composting partner?

Like other food scrap home pickup services in the Triangle, The ReCollective partners with Brooks Contractor. Brooks Contractor is a leading commercial composter in the region.

What is the price of The ReCollective compost service?

ReCollective hard-to-recycle members can add food scrap composting service to hard-to-recycle plans starting at just $21/month

Do you take BPI-certified compostable items?

We have consistently discouraged the use of compostable plastics and have now decided to stop accepting them entirely. However, Bambooware, cutlery, and BPI-certified paper and fiberware products are still acceptable.
BPI-certified plastics must meet carbon conversion standards, meaning they break down into CO2 but don’t decompose into nutrient-rich soil. Even with certification, BPI compostable plastics are only required to break down 90%, leaving behind residual, non-integrated materials. The mixed nature of food waste makes it even more challenging to identify non-compostable plastics, which are surprisingly common. As a result, many of these plastics are sifted out and sent to the landfill, increasing both costs and environmental harm. Additionally, there are growing concerns about PFAS in many products, whether certified or not.

Food Scrap service is not in my area. When will it be available?

The ReCollective offers compost service in parts of Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville, and Chapel Hill. We plan to continue expansion of composting service near others in the community in the coming months and throughout 2025.

Do you offer a Food Scrap-only service plan?

We only offer Food Scrap pickup as an add-on to our Hard-to-Recycle Plans. If you’re looking for a standalone compost doorstep pickup service near you, there are two other options available in the area that might meet your needs : Green Waste Company and CompostNow.

The ReCollective now offers a Community Compost drop-off option, available as a standalone service separate from Hard-To-Recycle home pickup.

What are other composting service options in the Triangle?

In the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area we are lucky to have many composting options! Check out these free options near you: Wake County, Town of Cary, City of Durham, and Orange County.
