Did you know that less than 3% of polypropylene, recycling symbol #5, is actually recycled in the US. ReCo’s mission is to fill these gaps! For March, please put plastic containers marked with a #5 symbol in your ReCo Pick Bag.

What is included? Food and medicinal containers with a Recycling Symbol #5. That includes containers and lids like yogurt, butter tubs, takeout containers, disposable cups, and empty pill bottles! Containers should be rinsed but don’t have to be spotless.

What is NOT included? Anything that doesn’t have a Recycling Symbol #5. Anything that isn’t a food or medicinal container. Please also check the recycling symbol on the lid as well as the container. Some lids are marked Recycling Symbol #4, while the container itself is marked #5. If that case, the lid should NOT be included in the collection.

ReCo is piloting the collection of polypropylene to assess if we should make this material part of our regular collection. Your feedback is really important! We will send a brief survey after the collection.

For March, The ReCollective is taking unopened regular and travel-size hygiene products as a Bonus ReCo Pick. Please put these items in your own bag, similar or smaller to a grocery store-size bag, and put it inside your black waterproof bag.

What is included? Unopened regular and travel-size hygiene products including: Shampoo, Conditioner, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Men’s Disposable Razors, Shaving Cream and Antiperspirant

Where is it going? The ReCollective is partnering with Trosa.

Founded in 1994, TROSA is an innovative, multi-year residential program that empowers people with substance use disorders to be productive, recovering individuals by providing comprehensive treatment, experiential vocational training, education, and continuing care. TROSA serves a daily average of 400 individuals living and learning together in recovery. Individuals are not charged to participate in TROSA’s program and do not need insurance. TROSA’s award-winning, peer-driven, evidence-based treatment program provides free housing, meals, clothing, health services, life skills training, mentorship, counseling, and more. REMINDER: YES, you may Share your bag capacity — Your friends, family, and neighbors can put materials in your ReCo bags. The one exception we do ask of this is Batteries / Lightbulbs since these are the most complex items for our team to manage. Feel free to Share your bag capacity for Plastic Film, Textiles, Styrofoam, ReCo Picks, and more!

So, help your friends ReCollect Plastic Containers Marked #5 and Hygiene Products too!
