How Does The ReCollective Bag Kit Work?
The ReCollective specializes in collecting items that are challenging to recycle, including plastic bags and film, styrofoam, clothing, other textiles, batteries, light bulbs, latex paint, small electronics, used kitchenware, and more. Rather than allowing these materials to become landfill waste, The ReCollective ensures their reuse or recycling in a transparent and responsible manner. Our household material collection kit is designed for convenience and ease of use, comprising four reusable canvas bags labeled for Plastic Film, Textiles, Batteries & Bulbs, and ReCo Pick (a rotating category each month).
- The canvas bags for all materials, except batteries and bulbs, measure 17 inches in width and 23 inches in height and feature a drawstring for easy opening and closing.
- The bag designated for batteries and bulbs measures 10 by 10 inches.
- These bags are intentionally designed to accommodate the typical monthly volume of recyclables from a household.
A 55-gallon plastic bag is designated for styrofoam collection. We request that you refrain from setting this bag out for collection until it is full, to avoid creating unnecessary waste.
- We ensure the recycling of both the styrofoam and the plastic bag containing the styrofoam. After each styrofoam pickup, we provide you with a new 55-gallon bag.
- Based on feedback from some members about the time it takes to fill the 55-gallon translucent styrofoam bag or issues with large pieces not fitting, we’ve introduced flexible options:
- If you have a small amount of styrofoam (such as one or two pieces), simply place those pieces in your black waterproof bag on pickup day.
- If you have a large piece of styrofoam, set it beside your black waterproof bag on pickup day. Ensure it is secured or weighed down to prevent it from blowing away.
- You are welcome to continue using the 55-gallon translucent styrofoam bag if preferred, but please wait to put it out until it is full to help conserve bags.
A large waterproof bag is provided to hold all the canvas bags on collection day. Why is this needed? The materials inside the canvas bags cannot get wet. Wetness leads to contamination.
At each pickup, our drivers collect all your materials and place clean, washed canvas bags in your waterproof bag! We handle everything else for you. In addition to our standard collection items, we offer add-on materials that can be picked up on your collection day if pre-ordered through the member portal. This selection includes items such as fluorescent tube bulbs, latex paint, and shredded paper.
