What can go in an Almost Anything Bag?
You can mix 30+ accepted hard-to-recycle materials, including plastic film, textiles, styrofoam, crinkly packaging, kitchenware, wine corks, office supplies and toys. Use the full accepted materials list to check each item before you pack it.
What should never go in the bag?
- Electrical devices
- Lithium batteries
- CFL or other glass lightbulbs
- Sharp objects
- Anything not on the accepted materials list
These restrictions help keep shipping and sorting safe.
Can I include batteries?
Only AA or AAA alkaline batteries, with a maximum of 10 batteries per bag. Do not include lithium batteries or other battery types.
How big is a bag, and how much can it hold?
All ReCo Mailback Bags measure 14.5 inches by 19 inches. Each filled bag can weigh up to 10 lbs.
How do I return my filled bag?
Scan the QR code on your bag to request your prepaid USPS return shipping label. Attach it to your sealed bag, then drop it off with USPS or schedule a free USPS pickup from home.
Where is online mailback available?
Online mailback service is available to households within 500 miles of Durham, North Carolina. We keep the program regional to help reduce transportation impact.
What happens to my materials after they arrive?
Our team opens returned bags at our Durham warehouse and sorts the contents into the appropriate reuse and recycling streams. You can track your bag and, after sorting, see your main materials and any contamination feedback.
What’s the difference between the bag options?
Almost Anything Bags let you mix accepted materials together: a 3-bag kit is $75 ($25 per bag), and a 6-bag kit is $138 ($23 per bag).
Dedicated bags are for textiles, plastic film or crinkly packaging, with only that material in each bag. They come in 3-packs starting at $11 per bag.
Where can I buy bags?

What are the bags themselves made of?
Our mailback bags are made with 50% post-consumer waste and 50% recycled resin. After they arrive, we recycle the bags through our LDPE plastic film stream.
Can my store or organization offer these bags?
Yes. Shops, service providers and community organizations can email help@therecollective.co about carrying Almost Anything Bags. Co-branded bags are available for high-volume partners.
